In this tutorial, we'll show you how to export a video with a transparent background inside of DaVinci Resolve. We'll also show you how to remove the background of your video if it isn't already transparent in the first place.

But if you already have a video recorded with a white or plain colored background, removing said color can be done using a similar process. If the background isn't one plain color, you may need to keyframe and go over the video a few times to key different sections individually.
Here's a summary of what the Motion Array Staff went over in the tutorial:
Keep in mind that removing the background from a video can be a challenging task and may require some trial and error to get the desired results. You may need to experiment with the different settings and tools in the Color Grade window to achieve the best results.
Once you have removed the background from your video, you may want to export it if you intend to use the foreground layer as an overlay for future projects. To do this, first make sure that your timeline contains the video clip or clips that you want to export with transparency. Then go to the "Deliver" page of DaVinci Resolve and in the "Output Format" section, select "Quicktime" as the file format. In the "Codec" dropdown menu, select "Animation" as the codec. This is the crucial step that allows for alpha channel transparency. In the "Output Settings" section, make sure that the "RGB + Alpha" checkbox is checked. This will ensure that the alpha channel information is included in the exported video, in other words, it'll make sure that your video is exported with a transparent background. Click on the "Add Output" button to add the current output settings as an export job. Finally, click on the "Start Render" button to begin the export process.
After the export is complete, you should have a QuickTime video file with transparency information included in the alpha channel. You can then use this video file in other video editing software or for compositing purposes.
To make an overlay transparent in DaVinci Resolve, you can follow these steps, follow what we did in the first section of this article, then export it using the method we mentioned in the "How To Export Transparent Video In Davinci Resolve" section. It's a pretty easy process to do and only takes a minute or two if the background of your overlay is a single plain color with no shadows or dark/light regions.
