A green screen overlay is a video clip recorded against a pure green background. In your editing software you use a chroma key effect to remove the green colour, leaving only the subject visible. This allows you to composite the overlay element over any footage or background. Most green screen overlays with simple subjects key out cleanly without any special equipment or advanced skills.
Import the green screen overlay into Premiere Pro and place it on a track above your footage. Go to Effects and search for Ultra Key. Drag the Ultra Key effect onto the overlay clip. In the Effect Controls panel click the eyedropper next to Key Colour and click on the green area of your overlay. The green will be removed leaving only the subject. Adjust the Matte Generation and Matte Cleanup settings to refine the key.
Import the green screen overlay and place it above your footage in the composition. Go to Effect, Keying, Keylight. In the Effect Controls panel click the Screen Colour eyedropper and click the green area of your clip. Keylight will remove the green background. Use the Screen Matte settings to clean up any remaining green fringing or transparency issues.
Import the green screen overlay and place it as a connected clip above your primary footage. Select the overlay clip and go to Effects, Keying, Keyer. Final Cut Pro will automatically detect and remove the green background. Use the Refine Key controls in the Inspector panel to clean up the edges and adjust the key quality.
Import the overlay and place it on a track above your footage in the timeline. Go to the Colour page and select the overlay clip. Open the Qualifier tool and use the eyedropper to select the green colour. DaVinci Resolve will generate a matte removing the green background. Use the Matte Finesse controls to clean up the edges.
In CapCut tap Overlay and add your green screen overlay clip. Select the overlay clip in the timeline and tap Chroma Key. Tap the green area of the overlay to set the key colour. CapCut will remove the green background automatically. Adjust the Intensity and Shadow sliders to refine the key quality.
