With the rise of short-form content, TikTok has become one of the most popular platforms for creating and sharing videos. However, if you want to make your TikTok videos stand out from the crowd, you might want to use a more advanced video editing software, such as DaVinci Resolve. DaVinci Resolve is a powerful and professional video editing software that allows you to edit, color, sound, and visual effects in one application. You can use DaVinci Resolve to create stunning TikTok videos with text, titles, stickers, emojis, graphics, transitions, effects, and more.

  • Adjusting the color, contrast, brightness, saturation, or other aspects: how to use the Color page to correct and enhance the colors and tones of your video.
  • Editing the audio: how to use the Fairlight page to edit the audio of your video, and how to add music, sound effects, voice-overs, or sync your audio with your video.
  • Exporting your video: how to use the Deliver page to export your video in the format and quality suitable for TikTok.
  • Uploading your video to TikTok: how to transfer your video to your phone and upload it to TikTok from the app.

Setting Up the Timeline for TikTok The first thing you need to do is to set up the timeline for TikTok. The timeline is where you arrange your video clips and audio files in the order you want them to play. For TikTok, you need to use a vertical format, which means the width of your video is smaller than the height. This is different from the usual horizontal format, which is wider than taller. The vertical format is also called 9:16, because the width is 9 units and the height is 16 units. To set up the timeline for TikTok, you have two options:

Option 1: Create a New Timeline You can create a new timeline with the vertical format by following these steps:

  • In the bottom left corner of the screen, you will see the media pool, which is where you import and store your video clips and audio files. Right-click on the media pool and select Create New Timeline from the menu.
  • A window will pop up, asking you to name your timeline and choose the settings. You can name your timeline anything you want, such as TikTok Video. Then, uncheck the box that says Use Project Settings, which means you want to use different settings from the default ones.
  • Under the Format section, click on the drop-down menu and select Custom. This will allow you to enter your own resolution and frame rate. The resolution is the number of pixels in your video, and the frame rate is the number of frames per second. For TikTok, you want to use 1080 x 1920 as the resolution and 30 as the frame rate. This means your video will have 1080 pixels horizontally and 1920 pixels vertically, and it will play 30 frames every second.
  • Click on Create to finish creating your new timeline. You will see your timeline appear in the bottom center of the screen, with a vertical shape. You can also see the name of your timeline and the settings on the top left corner of the timeline.

Option 2: Change the Project Settings You can also change the project settings to use the vertical format by following these steps:

  • Press Shift + 9 on your keyboard, or go to File > Project Settings from the menu bar. This will open the Project Settings window, where you can change the settings for your whole project.
  • Under the Master Settings section, click on the drop-down menu and select Custom. This will allow you to enter your own resolution and frame rate. For TikTok, you want to use 1080 x 1920 as the resolution and 30 as the frame rate. This means your video will have 1080 pixels horizontally and 1920 pixels vertically, and it will play 30 frames every second.
  • Click on Save to apply the changes to your project. You will see your timeline change to a vertical shape in the bottom center of the screen. You can also see the name of your project and the settings on the top left corner of the timeline.

Importing and Arranging Your Clips Once you have set up the timeline for TikTok, you can start importing and arranging your clips.
