Pro Film Wipe Kit for DaVinci Resolve

FreeVisuals Pro transition pack for DaVinci Resolve. Seven Fusion wipes you drop on the cut: soft wipe right, soft wipe left, soft wipe up, soft wipe down, diagonal wipe, brass edge wipe, and a film dissolve. No plugin. Resolve 18 and 19, including the free install.

This is not a title pack. Pro Clean Creator Titles is the red hook and subscribe set. Pro Film Chapter Kit is the brass chapter cards. This ZIP is the cut between shots. You download it from files.freevisuals.net after a Pro Single Pass, Monthly or Yearly plan.

Quick Answer

Seven .setting transitions. Copy them into the Resolve Transitions folder, not Titles. Restart. Drag from Effects Library onto the edit point between two clips. Soft wipes for scene changes. Diagonal once in a film. Brass edge when you want a thin line. Film dissolve for dialogue. 12 to 20 frames on a wipe. 8 to 16 on the dissolve.

What you get

Seven transitions. Same family. Soft edges, not a glitch pack and not a light-leak overlay. Built so a documentary can change scene without a stock whoosh.

  • FV Soft Wipe Right. Incoming shot enters from the right. Scene changes.
  • FV Soft Wipe Left. Incoming shot enters from the left. Pair with the right wipe so a journey can move both ways.
  • FV Soft Wipe Up. Incoming shot rises. Chapter changes and reveals.
  • FV Soft Wipe Down. Incoming shot drops. End of a section, or a cut to a map.
  • FV Diagonal Wipe. Corner to corner. One harder cut in the middle of a film. Not every cut.
  • FV Brass Edge Wipe. Thin edge through the frame. Matches the brass rule in the Film Chapter Kit.
  • FV Film Dissolve. Plain mix. Dialogue and B-roll. Shorter than the wipes.

Each file is a Fusion Edit transition. Resolve wires the outgoing clip and the incoming clip. You do not open Fusion for a normal edit. Edge Softness is in the Inspector on the wipe files. Brass Edge Wipe also has Edge Width.

How to install

  1. Download the ZIP after checkout or from your Pro library.
  2. Unzip. You get a Transitions folder and readme.txt.
  3. Quit DaVinci Resolve.
  4. Copy the seven .setting files into the Transitions folder.

Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Fusion/Templates/Edit/Transitions/

Windows: %APPDATA%\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\Templates\Edit\Transitions\

  1. Open Resolve.
  2. Effects Library, Toolbox, Video Transitions.
  3. Find the seven FV transitions.
  4. Drag onto the cut between two clips. Trim the transition length on the timeline.

If the names do not appear, the files are in Titles or Macros, or Resolve was still open. Transitions only show from Fusion/Templates/Edit/Transitions.

Install path walkthrough, titles and transitions use the same Fusion template folders: Saving Title Templates in DaVinci Resolve via Fusion with Macros. That video is the folder path. It is not this pack. Put these files in Transitions, not Titles.

How to use each wipe

Soft Wipe Right and Left

Use these for a change of place. Harbour to street. Interview to B-roll. 12 to 20 frames at 24 fps. Longer than that and the wipe starts to feel like a slideshow. Edge Softness default is soft. Drop it if the two shots are already similar in brightness and the edge disappears.

Do not alternate left and right on every cut in a two-minute video. Pick one direction for the film. Use the other only when the story moves back.

Soft Wipe Up and Down

Up for a reveal. Down for a close. A chapter card from the Film Chapter Kit can sit on a black slug, then a wipe up into the next scene. That is the pairing these two packs are built for.

Diagonal Wipe

One use per film is enough. A midpoint, or the cut into the last act. If you put it on five cuts, the film looks like a template reel.

Brass Edge Wipe

The thin line is the point. Keep Edge Width low. Raise it only if the line vanishes on a bright frame. Use it when the chapter cards in the same film already use the brass rule, so the cut and the title feel like one design.

Film Dissolve

Dialogue, walking shots, and B-roll that should not announce the cut. 8 to 16 frames. A 30-frame dissolve on a talking head looks like a mistake. This file has no edge control. Length is the only control, and that lives on the timeline.

Resolve version and plugins

Fusion Edit transitions. Resolve 18 and 19. Free Resolve is enough. No OFX. No paid Fusion plugin. No third-party transition pack to install first.

Timeline size follows the project. A 1920x1080 timeline and a 1080x1920 timeline both take the same files. On 9:16, check the diagonal. A corner wipe covers the face longer on a tall frame. Shorten it if the subject is centred.

These are not speed ramps. Resolve optical flow and speed changes stay in the clip. The wipe only covers the join.

What this pack is not

It is not a 1500-transition bundle. It is not a glitch set, a light leak overlay, or a zoom punch. It is seven cuts a doc or travel film can repeat. If you need a camera-move plugin or a 3D opener, use the premium list on DaVinci Resolve templates. Those open on Envato, Artlist, Motion Array, Motion Elements or MotionVFX. Partner licence, not this ZIP.

Need words on screen as well: Pro Film Chapter Kit for the cards, Pro Clean Creator Titles for hooks and a subscribe tag. Do not put a red subscribe bar on the same frame as a brass edge wipe.

Pairing on FreeVisuals

Grade both sides of the wipe before you judge the edge. A soft wipe between a warm shot and a cool shot looks like a filter change, not a cut. Use one LUT across the scene from Premium LUTs. Travel and doc work sits on a warm or film-grit grade, not a neon pack.

Music under a chapter wipe: Artlist or Epidemic Sound. A whoosh on every wipe makes the pack sound like a trailer. Leave most wipes dry.

Bigger Resolve transition sets after this pack: Envato, Motion Array or MotionVFX. Those are affiliate. A Pro pass does not unlock them.

Do not drag these .setting files into Premiere or CapCut. They are Fusion transitions.

Free vs this pack

The free and premium rows on DaVinci Resolve templates include partner transitions. This pack is owned. One ZIP. Same seven cuts every film so the series does not look like a different template each week.

Pro Monthly and Yearly unlock this pack plus other Pro rows. Single Pass unlocks this ZIP only. Affiliate packs on the same page do not unlock with Pro.

A weekly doc pipeline

Install the seven files once. Do not recopy them from the ZIP every upload. In the first project, set a 16-frame soft wipe right as the default scene change and an 8-frame film dissolve for interview coverage. Duplicate that project for the next film.

Batch one long cut. Mark chapter points. Wipe up into the new chapter. Dissolve inside the chapter. Save the diagonal for the turn. A film that uses all seven on one timeline looks like a demo, not a cut.

If you also use the Film Chapter Kit, put the chapter card on a track above the wipe, not instead of it. The card holds. The wipe moves. They are different jobs.

Length, softness, and when a cut is better

Most joins in a documentary should still be cuts. A wipe is a scene change, a time jump, or a chapter. Inside a scene, cut. A wipe on every line of an interview makes the film slower and makes the viewer watch the edge instead of the person.

Softness is not a fix for a bad join. If the two shots do not belong together, a softer edge will not hide that. Pick the outgoing frame and the incoming frame first. Then add the wipe.

On a bright sky, a soft wipe can disappear. Raise the timeline length by four frames before you raise softness. On a dark night shot, the same softness can look like a long fade. Shorten it.

Match grade, then match the wipe. If one side is a stop darker, the edge reads as a mistake. Lift the darker clip, or pick a different out point, before you blame the transition.

9:16 and long-form

The same files work on a vertical timeline. Faces sit in the centre on Shorts, so a left or right wipe crosses the face. That is fine for a scene change. It is wrong for a line of dialogue. Use the film dissolve on talking-head Shorts. Use the directional wipes on B-roll.

Long-form can hold a 20-frame wipe. A Short usually cannot. 8 to 12 frames on 9:16, or the viewer has swiped before the wipe finishes.

Common mistakes

  • Copying the ZIP into Transitions without unzipping.
  • Putting the files in Titles or Macros.
  • Leaving Resolve open during the copy.
  • Dragging the transition onto a clip instead of the cut.
  • Leaving a wipe at two seconds.
  • Using the diagonal on every scene change.
  • Judging the edge before both clips share a grade.

FAQ

Does this work in the free version of Resolve?

Yes. Fusion transitions do not need Studio.

Do I need a plugin?

No.

Why do I not see them under Titles?

They are transitions. Effects Library, Video Transitions, after a restart.

Can I use this on 9:16?

Yes. Shorten directional wipes so they do not sit on a face for the whole Short.

Can I change the edge?

Yes. Edge Softness on the wipe files. Edge Width on Brass Edge Wipe. Film Dissolve has no edge control.

Will this open in Premiere?

No. Fusion .setting only.

Is this the same as the Film Chapter Kit?

No. That pack is titles. This pack is the cut. Use both if the film needs cards and wipes.

Does Pro unlock the Envato wipes on the same page?

No. Partner files use the partner licence.

Wrap

Pick soft wipe right and the film dissolve. Keep those two for the series. Change the shots, not the transition family. A channel that swaps wipe packs every upload looks unfinished.

Download once. Store the ZIP on your drive. When FreeVisuals revises the pack, replace the seven files.

Search terms this page should earn: DaVinci Resolve wipe transition, Resolve film dissolve, Fusion transition pack, soft wipe Resolve. That is why the H1 stays on film wipe kit and Resolve.
